This lesson is the first of two regarding the selection and appointment of Deacons in the local congregation. It emphasizes the meaning of the term, and by implication, the duties of the office. It also deals with some common misconceptions regarding the position. (This lesson is adapted from an excellent outline by Frank Jamerson in his workbook "Elders & Deacons and Their Wives"; pp.27-28)

About the Church of Christ

The Southside Church of Christ family is a group of people who are striving to learn, understand, and live what God's Word teaches. We want to be New Testament Christians- nothing more, and certainly nothing less.

We seek to be the Church according to His teaching, therefore we belong to Him;
It is a scriptural name by which saints in the New Testament were called [Romans 16:16]; and,
It hopefully identifies us to others as people who are trying to be the non-denominational Church which Jesus Christ purchased with his blood [Acts 20:28].
