Learning to be Leaders
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Choices, Growth, Nehemiah
A lesson on "Leadership" is usually viewed as being targeted to the males of the congregation. Such is not true with this one, and should not be true of all others. Though men are given the "public" role of leadership in the Church, women can, and are to "lead" in other ways. Thus, "leadership" should be of concern to all- male or female, young, old, or in-between, because we all "lead" others every day. By our attitudes, choices, and examples, we lead others closer to God or closer to Satan all the time! Herein we see the importance of "Learning to be Leaders" for all. In this lesson, a few key attitudes and practices of good leadership are noted from Nehemiah.

At what point a person becomes accountable to God is a difficult question to determine. It is difficult primarily because the Bible does not give a specific age in years at which it occurs. So, we're left with deducing answers from what the Bible does say. While our desire for a certain age at which accountability begins is futile, there are principles and considerations which can help.
Discouragers and Discouragement
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Choices, Commitment, Faith, Trust, Nehemiah
Throughout the centuries, those who would "build for the Lord" have had to face discouragers- those who intentionally or unintentionally seek to thwart the work. How God's people deal with such obstacles usually determines the success or failure of their efforts. So, in keeping with the notion that to be forewarned is to be forearmed, this lesson is given. It is taken from Nehemiah 4 and regards the work of rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem after the Babylonian captivity. Specifically, the lesson examines the means and methods employed by Sanballat and Tobiah to discourage the Jews from their work of rebuilding. It is amazing how often discouragers follow this same pattern.
