What is the duty of the Church? (John 6)
Who is Jesus
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Faith, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John
This lesson looks at three Proofs of Jesus Divinity: the Virgin Birth, the Miracles, and the Resurrection to show that Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be.
Who is Jesus 2
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Faith, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John
This lesson looks at one final Proof of Jesus' Divinity: His Teaching. Perhaps more than all the others, this proof shows very clearly that Jesus was/is who He claimed to be.
“Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?”
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Choices, Commitment, Fidelity, Matthew, John
Using the popular hymn as a starting point, this lesson considers who was at the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ; and then asks whether or not "you" would have been there and with whom "you" would have stood.
How to Help Sinners Go to Hell
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Choices, Church, Repentance, Salvation, Matthew, Luke, John, Galatians
This sermon is adapted from an excellent article by David Smitherman entitled "If brethren can practice it, why can't I preach it?". It is a tongue-in-cheek look at the things "we righteous" do to assist in the condemnation of others.
Evangelistic Tools
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Fidelity, Growth, Salvation, Matthew, Luke, John, Titus
We guys like tools- we have boxes, garages, and shops full of them. Each one proves its worthiness (or lack thereof) by being at some point "just the right tool for the job." But what is just the right tool for the job of evangelism? This lesson takes a look at that very question. It is a Word file text outline.
Which “Truth” Saves?
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Salvation, John
In John 8:32b, Jesus uttered the oft quoted and seldom fully understood dictum, “the truth shall make you free.” While this statement is completely true and accurate, I fear it has been so often divorced from its contextual meaning that most fail to truly comprehend it. To properly understand the proposition, we must further ask and answer this question: What kind of truth is under consideration?
The Comfort of Christianity (John 14)
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Choices, Commitment, Trust, John
The Word file outline is an overview of John 14. The disciples whom Jesus addressed were very troubled in heart. Jesus' words were meant to comfort through education and reminder. If we are "troubled in heart" today, these same words should likewise comfort us.
What were You Born Again to Be or Do?
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Commitment, Fidelity, Growth, Salvation, Matthew, John, 1 Thessalonians
Think about some song titles: "Born to Run", "Born to Fly", "Born Free", "Born to Be Wild", etc. Likewise, consider some bumper stickers we've all seen" "Born to Golf", "Born to Hunt", "Born to Fish", "Born to Shop", etc. These are all things which we may think we were "born" to do or be physically. What about the thing(s) we were "born again" to be or do?
Paradoxes of Jesus and His Purposes
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Baptism, Obedience, Salvation, Matthew, John
A paradox is a statement that is seemingly contradictory or opposed to common sense, yet true. While the Bible contains many examples of such statements, this lesson focuses on those that pertain to Jesus and His purpose to save mankind.
