Lessons of Love and Forgiveness from the Prodigal’s Father

We often look at and learn from the collection of parables in Luke 15 otherwise known as "The Lost Parables"- not because they were at some point lost, but because they are all centered around something that was lost. There was the lost coin, the lost sheep, and the lost son (aka the Prodigal). Of these three, the last usually gets most of the attention. And within it, obviously the Prodigal himself garners most application points. And the behind him, the Elder Brother receives a fair amount of play also. But the one I've too long over-looked is the Father. Given the context of vv.1-2, he might ought to be our central focal point for applications today.

Romans 3:23 makes it clear that all have sinned. But it is also true that Christians sin after their conversion, 1John 1:7-10. So how we deal with sin after our conversion to Christ is just as important as it was prior to our initial obedience to Him. A few biblical examples from the Old and New Testaments are examined to demonstrate ineffective responses to sin, and then the proper reactions are shown from the text.
