Equal, but not Identical

In one of my favorite "modern" western movies, "Quigley Down Under," the hero has a great line- "God created all men, Sam Colt made them equal." The line is not original to the movie, but is funny in its context, true in a sense, and resonates with those of us who support "the right to bear arms" as provide by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. It's the kind of dialog around which a movie can be based....but isn't quite sermon material. So, try this quote instead: "God created all men equal, but not identical." (Philip C. Strong, October, 2009- and I'm no Matthew Quigley, Tom Selleck, or movie star, I know!) Now that is a quote around which a sermon can be based...

Shepherds and Sheep- Parts 1 & 2
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Commitment, Trust, Membership, Ezekiel, John
Several times throughout the New Testament God uses the metaphor of Shepherds and Sheep to describe His people and those who lead, feed, and care for them. But this imagery of God's people as sheep and those who lead them as shepherds is not 'new' in the New Testament. Several Old Testament prophets, speaking by the inspiration of course, used the same metaphor(s). This lesson, in two parts, looks at one such instance from Ezekiel 34. From this great text, it is hoped that we can learn lessons from the past that will benefit both God's Shepherds and Sheep today.
