Most members of the church have at some point be asked, "Why doesn't the Church of Christ use music in worship?" I've sometimes said, "We do- singing is music." But of course, that's not what is meant by the question. This lesson attempts to answer the question.
Glorifying: God or Satan?
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Choices, Obedience, 2 Chronicles, Matthew, Romans
To "glorify" something, or more usually someone, is to "praise, extol, magnify, celebrate, honor....to adorn with luster, to clothe with splendor" (Enhanced Strong's Lexicon for the Greek word "doxazo"). Glorifying is one of things in which there is no "middle ground"- we either glorify God by doing His will, or we glorify Satan by doing his will. Which is it for you?
Solomon and Rahab

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a character of the Old Testament? If such were possible, and you could be either "Solomon" or "Rahab," which would you choose? "Let's see....the wealthiest and wisest king of Israel, or a heathen prostitute- which to choose?" I know it sounds ridiculous, but think about it in these terms: "Of these two, which one is listed in the 'Hall of Faith' in Hebrews 11?" And perhaps just as importantly, "Why is she there, and not him?"
The Downfall of Israel- What ours and all countries ought to learn.
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Apostasy, Fidelity, Obedience, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 2 Chronicles
The downward spiral of death for the northern Ten Tribes of Israel began even before the nation was fully formed. Decisions were made and actions taken early on that were the beginning of the end for the short-lived nation. As we have been told so often, "History repeats itself" and "Those who do not learn from History are doomed to repeat it." Such is true with our country and all others who make the same mistakes that they did. This lesson highlights individual attitudes and actions which led to the ultimate conclusion that "God removed Israel from His sight." Heed the warning!

The lesson makes some intriguing comparisons between the physical disease of leprosy and the spiritual disease of sin. Effects on society, churches, and individuals are considered, and solutions gleaned from Matthew 8:1-4.
