Ignorant Conscientiousness

"An ignorant conscientiousness may be quite as dangerous to a community as deliberate weakness." (Albert C. Knudson; The Beacon Lights of Prophecy; New York: Eaton & Maines, 1914)
Lessons Learned from Israel’s First King

(An article by Bro. Rickie Jenkins was the basic premise for this lesson. I continue to learn from his capable pen, or in this case, his keyboard! Thanks Rickie.) Learn from the life of Saul- Israel's first king. This lesson is a general overview of the public life of Saul from 1Samuel 8 - 15, and then looks specifically at three significant events in his life from chps. 13 - 15.
Head and Heel: The Battle Between Good and Evil
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Salvation, Genesis, 1 Samuel, Mark, Luke
From Genesis 3:15 onward, the scriptures depict, if we look closely, skirmishes in the battle between Good and Evil. In many ways, this epic battle between God and Satan (and those allied with each) is the story of the Bible. While this lesson does not propose to highlight all, or even most, of these individual engagements, it will examine one from the Old Testament involving Saul and David, and four from the New Testament in the life of Jesus Christ.
Solomon and Rahab

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a character of the Old Testament? If such were possible, and you could be either "Solomon" or "Rahab," which would you choose? "Let's see....the wealthiest and wisest king of Israel, or a heathen prostitute- which to choose?" I know it sounds ridiculous, but think about it in these terms: "Of these two, which one is listed in the 'Hall of Faith' in Hebrews 11?" And perhaps just as importantly, "Why is she there, and not him?"
Animals, God, and You

Hebrews 1:1 says, "God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and many ways,". Have you ever thought about the "many ways" through which God spoke to people "long ago"? He even occasionally used animals to get His point across....
Lady’s Man, Man’s Man, My Own Man, or God’s Man?
Posted by Philip Strong | Categories: Choices, Growth, 1 Samuel, 1 Kings
Most churches are composed of more women than men. This is due, in part, to the general tendency of women to live longer than men. But even among the younger populace of congregations, there are again usually more females than males. I’m not exactly sure why this is so, but for whatever reasons, women generally seem to be more accepting of the gospel and spiritually-minded than men. While this is certainly a commendable reflection upon the fairer sex, it surely doesn’t bode well for the male of the species! So, what can be done to improve the spiritual-mindedness of us guys? Consider three representative types of men: the Lady’s Man, the Man’s Man, and the My Own Man.
